Elyse Dakin is from Columbus, Ohio and has been dancing since the age of five. At Marjorie Jones Schools she trained in ballet, tap, jazz, modern and pointe, and went on to pursue her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from The Ohio State University. Elyse grew up competing around Ohio, and has since trained with world-renowned instructors in all styles at intensives such as Jazz Dance World Congress, as well as in New York City at Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway. Elyse began teaching in 2013, and after completing her BFA in 2017, she has continued to teach and choreograph throughout Ohio and Chicago. In 2018, she attended the National Dance Institute of New Mexico’s Teaching Excellence workshop and worked with a local Columbus non-profit to bring dance, music and performance to public school children. She puts technique at the heart of her teaching and believes in using dance education to build work ethic, inspire, and put students on the path to leading successful lives. Elyse is an active member of Dance Masters of America, Ohio Dance Masters Chapter 16. She currently resides in Chicago and dances on scholarship with Hubbard Street’s Lou Conte Dance Studio. Elyse is excited to begin her first year teaching at YDA!
